Cuomo: No Welcome Mat for Conservatives

The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, made a rather startling statement in a radio interview recently. Speaking of the nature of the Republican party—of which he apparently claims to be an expert—he said a battle is raging within the party between moderates and extremists. He identified those “extremists” in the following words: Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are, and they’re the… Read more »

The Albatross & the Trump Card

Two businessmen are making noise as presidential contenders: Mitt Romney and Donald Trump. Both have serious flaws. I know my opinion of them will not sit well with everyone, but I always strive to be as open as possible about my views, realizing that I could be wrong, but believing that it is important to air legitimate concerns. For Mitt Romney, this is a second time around; he fell short in 2008, but now feels the time is right for… Read more »

The Pro-Life Apologetic

A Woman’s Choice, our local Christian pregnancy center, which helps women with what we normally call crisis pregnancies, provides for both material and spiritual needs. Last night, the center had its annual fundraising dinner—and it was truly a special event. The speaker was Scott Klusendorf, a lecturer on bioethics who debates on university campuses and other venues, showing the validity of the pro-life position, morally and scientifically. I had never heard him speak before, so I didn’t know quite what… Read more »

Hubris Personified

Let’s highlight three astounding examples of hubris today—people who believe they know everything and/or they try to remake themselves without anybody noticing. Well, it’s not working; people are noticing. Our first example is Helen Thomas. If you haven’t heard about her fiasco, you’re probably not watching any news at all. The video of her telling Jews in Israel to “get the hell out” and go back to Poland or Germany has burned up the internet. The firestorm led to her… Read more »

To Save the Innocent

Last night I attended a fundraiser for an organization devoted to the pro-life cause. A Woman’s Choice is a center in Lakeland, Florida, where pregnant women considering abortion can go to get an ultrasound and practical help for bringing a new life into the world. But it doesn’t stop there; the center also offers aid after the child is born, teaching parenting skills and leading these women [and men] into a relationship with the Lord. Being pro-life is more than… Read more »
