At first, I was grateful that more states were taking a stand for religious liberty. No one expected the firestorm that has resulted. It has become a “gay-rights” agenda item. Whoever would have thought that our First Amendment guarantee of “free exercise of religion” would attempt to be undermined in this manner? I keep having to say “I wish I could be surprised by . . .” Fill in the blank. Disagreement about policy is one thing; we can all participate in honest debate about the correct policy to follow. Navy Chaplain Wes Modder is in trouble for holding to his Christian beliefs. Modder is a decorated chaplain who has performed his duties for nearly two decades.
