This has been a dismal political season. And the real campaign doesn’t begin until a year from now. Frankly, I don’t look forward to it. Democrat presidential candidates continue their march into Far-Left Oblivion as they promote policies that even most Democrats reject. They remain particularly strident on abortion, even to the point of birth—and, in some cases, even after birth. On the one hand, they will talk about the how much they care for people that they want to put the government in charge of healthcare (as if the government knows what it is doing). Yet they won’t admit that there is that one population left out of their promises.
One candidate, in particular, attempts to use the Bible to argue his point of view:
Nothing can be more hypocritical than using Scripture to promote the killing of innocent children. Yet this is also the candidate who says God has blessed his same-sex union, so it’s really no surprise.
On the other side of the political divide, we have a man who, in my opinion, becomes more the opposite of “a very stable genius” with each passing week. Some of what he has proposed recently ought to give even his staunchest supporters pause.
We live in a foolish time, but it’s brought on by the dearth of foundational Christian belief and practice. I haven’t written much on politics lately, as I’m sure some of my regular readers have noticed. If I were to spend as much time contemplating the current scene as I used to, I would be most discouraged.
The positive part of all this is that it points me back to the Lord in a new way. I believe I see more clearly now than ever that much of our politics is pure illusion and that there is no answer to our problems without a renewal of Biblical thinking. For that revelation, I am deeply grateful, and I will do whatever I can to help bring that renewal.
