A Plethora of Silly Statements

President Obama has been pretty good at one thing this week: inserting his foot into his mouth. His “bumps in the road” comment has drawn plenty of responses from cartoonists. I gave a few in an earlier post. Here are a couple more:

He also tried to point out reasons why unemployment remains so high after two and one-half years of his administration—you know, jobs are being taken away by ATMs and airport ticket kiosks. As if making those machines, etc., doesn’t create jobs? This is getting downright silly. Again, he refuses to acknowledge his foolish policies as the culprit:

His faith is truly inspiring.

Then he made another statement that I think was supposed to be a little joke on himself, not realizing just how potent it was. Speaking to his own Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, in reference to his oft-repeated promise that stimulus money would go to “shovel-ready jobs,” he said, “Shovel-ready was not as … uh … shovel-ready as we expected.”

This is getting almost too painful to watch. If we’re smart, this pain can end in November 2012.
