Standard and Poor’s, which evaluates credit ratings, has just announced that the United States is in trouble. S&P is saying that the high debt now puts us in a negative status, meaning there is concern about the trustworthiness of the government to pay its obligations.

If our children want to have any hope at all, we need to change our approach drastically. The only question now is if Democrats will allow Republicans to go forward with this change. What bothers me quite a bit about all the talk of stalemate on Capitol Hill is that commentators often speak of it as a problem on both sides, claiming a type of moral equivalency—both are to blame. In fact, there is only one side blocking the change we need.

Place the blame where it belongs.
