Reagan's Political Conversion

What happened to change Ronald Reagan from a New Deal liberal into a conservative icon? My latest posting on Big Government tells you how it happened. They made it the feature story for the day. You can find it here: http://biggovernment.com/asnyder/2010/07/17/reagans-political-conversion/#more-144614 Most of the posting is an excerpt from my book on Reagan and Whittaker Chambers, which I just finished writing  recently. I’m looking for a publisher now. Prayer would be appreciated.

The Wisdom of Mallard Fillmore

I’m not really a lazy person. Anyone who keeps up a daily blog while writing a book must have some work ethic, right? But there are those days when I like to let others do the commenting for me. One comic strip, in particular, does a fine job of that. For instance, are you interested in education policy and the state of education in America? Go no further. Believe it or not, some “students” have a plan pretty similar to… Read more »

More Financial Chicanery

The Dodd-Frank Bill, which supposedly will bring significant financial reform to banks and Wall Street, has passed Congress and is on its way to the White House for Obama’s signature. Wait a minute, what was the name of that bill again? Dodd? Frank? Sound familiar? Sen. Chris Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank were the architects of the government mismanagement of the economy that led to the current recession. They were the ones who opened the floodgates for Fannie and Freddie to… Read more »

More Non-News News

While most of the world is entranced by the travails of Lindsay Lohan and other high-profile stories, I’ve been following the non-news news—you know, the real news that is considered non-news by most of the mainstream media. Let me give some examples. First: Remember that executive order President Obama signed saying that his healthcare bill wouldn’t fund abortions? The one that brought all the supposedly pro-life Democrats on board? The one that I and many others said at the time… Read more »

The Real Victim of Racism

So the NAACP has voted to condemn the Tea Party for its racism? Where did they find that racism? Some will point to the infamous “walk” by Democratic leaders from their House office building to the Capitol when some of them claimed to hear racist remarks from the crowd—remarks that no one else heard, that were never picked up by any microphone or in any video. When you want to believe something, you just will, regardless of the facts. Deroy… Read more »

Pseudo-Intellectualism

There are some Americans who have an inferiority complex [please excuse me for using Freudian terminology—although I think he was wrong on almost everything, this term does seem to apply]. They think that America is always behind the times, backward, and just not on the cutting edge of sophistication. For some reason, they believe that Europe is the standard for all things, so we need to change our ways and become more like Europe. Has anyone noticed that a lot… Read more »

Fox and Friends?

I’ve been reading comments lately about how all the TV news media are alike, that there’s no difference at all no matter which news you watch. While I know that all TV news is focused on ratings, and some decisions are going to be based on what people “want” to hear about [egregious examples—Michael Jackson, Lindsay Lohan], I still believe there is one very big distinction that can be made. Only one news company—Fox News—pays attention to some of the… Read more »
