On Wednesday, former President George Bush—remember him?—spoke out more openly than he has since leaving office, commenting on the policies of the current administration. While not criticizing Obama by name, he did make it clear he is concerned about the direction in which this country is going.
I have commented, as have others, that President Bush, in some ways, was not very conservative or constitutional in some of his policies. Yet I’ve always believed he was doing what he thought was best; he was genuine. As much as I may have disagreed with some of his decisions, I always believed in his character.
Reading his latest comments, one longs for this perspective once again in the White House. There is a wide gulf in worldview between Bush and Obama. We have turned a corner, but it is a wrong turn.
