Today, President Obama delivers the commencement address at Notre Dame University, about 25 miles from my hometown. Notre Dame claims to be “the place where the [Catholic] Church does its thinking.” Yet it is now choosing to honor a pro-abortion politician with an honorary degree.
What are the ramifications of such a decision? Gerard Bradley, a law professor at Notre Dame, explains why this is such a disastrous decision, not only for the Catholic Church, but for American culture in general. His article is articulate, insightful, and essential reading for Christians who really need to understand why a symbolic degree can be so devastating. After reading the article, my first thought was “I hope Prof. Bradley won’t lose his position with his bold pronouncements.” Yet we need boldness like his in these distressing times.
